“I happen to be a fashion addict. I wake up in the morning and say what am I going to wear today. It depends on what my activity is. I always have to look like I’m in the in-crowd.”

Fashion: The Cover to the story of us

Although the saying "never judge a book by its cover" still stands true, you must admit that even the most ill written novel will be thumbed through because of an alluring cover. Fashion acts as the cover to the story of who we are.

There are so many aspects of fashion, and why it matters, that I think a book could be written on just that subject.
From necessary functionality to playful frivolity to artfelt expression, to lofty self stature and more. Then there are the emotional interactions and effects, as well, not to mention the differences between the obvious....men & women.
I found myself thinking beyond this simple question into realms of imagined "others" and realized that this was a truly thought provoking subject.....with many alternative aspects.

"Fashion represents the artistic side of the body: it constitutes a fundamental moment during which the body ceases to be only a functional means to daily life and becomes a symbol, a form of art."

“It’s who you are. It’s telling the world who you are. It’s like a moving canvas. It’s like a billboard. It’s making you an individual, it’s stating who you are. It matters to me when I get up in the morning. It’s who I want to tell the world I am.”

“If you look a certain way, fashion helps you look better. Look at Mrs. H. She’s 80 … I don’t want to say. She looks amazing. She walks in here and she takes a pair of jeans and she just rocks it out. Fashion makes a difference, whether it’s expensive or it’s not. You just have to know how to work it.”

Fashion Is My Art Form

Posted February 21st, 2011 By: jennwiz 0 Comments | Add a Comment

I have always loved fashion and putting myself together. It's how I express myself, it's my art form. I am my canvas. I have an eye of what's good on me and have found through the years that I am always ahead of finding & wearing clothes & shoes, sometimes 3 years or so before they catch on as 'trendy' and all the designers start designing, what I started wearing years before. For example, I bought a pair of ripped Dolce Gabbana jeans when Dolce first designed them and at least 3-4 years before they even caught on. I may have spent $650 15 years ago, but I still wear those jeans today.

Fashion connects me with the past. I wear a certain bracelet because it reminds me of my daughters, and of a certain time in our past. I still wear the bracelet even though it's years later, because it gives me a feeling of strength and perspective, and it makes me feel peaceful.
Fashion can provide a powerful connection to the past.
